Richness and diversity of the Pegaso collection
This collection of Pegaso Model cars allows you to discover the different facets of this exceptional Spanish brand. You'll find faithful reproductions of racing models that have marked the history of motorsport, including the famous Z-102s that shone on European circuits in the 1950s.
Classic car enthusiasts will particularly appreciate the models representing Pegaso's golden age, a period during which the brand successfully combined exceptional performance with avant-garde design. The collection also includes Pegaso commercial vehicles , demonstrating the industrial versatility of this Spanish company.
The fascinating story of Pegaso
Founded in 1946 in Barcelona, Pegaso (Empresa Nacional de Autocamiones) was born from the transformation of the former Hispano-Suiza factory. Under the leadership of Wilfredo Ricart, a former Alfa Romeo engineer, the brand quickly developed a reputation for technical excellence. The name "Pegaso," inspired by the winged horse of Greek mythology, perfectly symbolizes the company's ambition to take the Spanish automotive industry to new heights.
The company quickly distinguished itself by its ability to produce both robust utility vehicles and exceptional sports cars. The 1950s marked Pegaso's heyday with the launch of the Z-102, nicknamed "Thrill," a sports car that rivaled the most prestigious Italian brands of the time. This glorious period is perfectly reflected in the Pegaso model cars in my collection.
A significant anecdote from Pegaso history
One of the most fascinating anecdotes in Pegaso history concerns the record set in 1953 at the Jabbeke circuit in Belgium. A production Pegaso Z-102, driven by Joaquín Palacio, reached the remarkable speed of 243.079 km/h , becoming the fastest touring car in the world at the time. This record, which surpasses even that of contemporary Ferraris, demonstrates the technical excellence of this often overlooked Spanish brand.
This technical feat was part of Franco's Spain, where Pegaso represented the nation's industrial pride. The brand embodied the ambition of a country seeking to assert its technological capabilities on the international stage, well beyond its Iberian borders. This historical and cultural dimension gives Pegaso Model cars a special symbolic value for collectors.
Complete your Model collection with Pegaso
In the exciting world of Model cars, Pegaso models hold a special place. They represent Spanish technical excellence and are a perfect addition to existing collections. Whether you collect Ferraris , Maseratis , or Alfa Romeos , adding Pegaso models brings a unique historical and technical dimension to your collection.
Discerning collectors recognize Pegaso model cars as an opportunity to own replicas of rare and historically significant vehicles. These models are particularly appealing to classic sports car enthusiasts, fans of Spanish industrial history, and anyone who appreciates lesser-known car brands with exceptional achievements.
The complementarity with other brands in the collection is obvious: a Pegaso Z-102 model naturally finds its place alongside the cars of the 1950s , the golden period of European motorsport. This era, marked by technical innovation and aesthetic audacity, is perfectly represented by the creations of Wilfredo Ricart.
The perfect gift idea
Giving a Pegaso Model car makes an original and refined gift for any special occasion. Whether for a birthday, Father's Day, or Christmas, these models captivate with their unique character and fascinating history. Did You Know? Anecdotes and Curiosities about our Miniatures
What is the origin of the name Pegaso and what did this Spanish brand represent?
Pegaso takes its name from Pegasus, the winged horse of Greek mythology. This Spanish brand, founded in 1946, was the most prestigious car and truck manufacturer in Spain, based in Barcelona. It produced everything from rugged trucks to exceptional sports cars.
Why were the Pegaso Z-102 cars considered revolutionary in the 1950s?
The Pegaso Z-102, produced between 1951 and 1958, was one of the fastest cars in the world at the time. With its light-alloy V8 engine and all-aluminum body, it could reach 250 km/h. Only 84 examples were built, making it an ultra-rare automotive legend today.
What connection did Pegaso have with the Spanish military industry?
Pegaso was a Spanish state-owned company that manufactured not only civilian vehicles, but also military equipment. The company produced armored vehicles, tactical vehicles, and military trucks for the Spanish army, which explains the legendary robustness of its civilian constructions.
How many Pegaso sports cars were produced in total?
Pegaso only produced about 125 sports cars in total during its entire existence, including the Z-102 and Z-103. This limited production was due to high manufacturing costs and ultra-premium positioning. Each car was practically assembled by hand, which explains their astronomical current value.
Which famous person owned a Pegaso and why is this story significant?
Spanish Formula 1 driver Alfonso de Portago owned a Pegaso Z-102. He used this car for training between races, as its performance was comparable to that of the single-seaters of the time. Tragically, de Portago died in the 1957 Mille Miglia, but not at the wheel of his Pegaso.
