Discover the Miniatures JournalDiscover the golden age of the automobile with retro Model cars from 1980 to 1999
Here I present my collection of retro Model cars spanning two fascinating decades of automotive history, from 1980 to 1999. This pivotal period saw the birth of iconic models that continue to fascinate car enthusiasts and collectors around the world today.
A constantly evolving selection of Models
As a specialist retailer, I offer a collection representing the vehicles currently in stock , updated regularly according to arrivals and market opportunities. The majority of my Models are in 1/43 scale, the reference format for collectors, but you will also find models in 1/24 and 1/18 for fans of larger formats, as well as some pieces in HO scale (1/87).
Since each model is available in limited quantities —usually between 1 and 2 copies—the collection you discover corresponds exactly to the Models available for sale. This approach guarantees the authenticity of the offer and allows us to offer models that are sometimes rare or difficult to find elsewhere.
A journey through the automotive icons of the 80s and 90s
This collection brings together the most significant models from these two revolutionary decades. You'll find the family sedans that conquered European roads, the sports coupes that defined the style of the era, and the first recreational 4x4s that democratized this segment.
Compact sedans like the Peugeot 205, Renault 5, or Volkswagen Golf sit alongside more high-end models such as the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes 190, or Audi 80. Sports car enthusiasts will find the legendary Ferraris of the 80s, the Porsche 911 in their various evolutions, or even the first supercars like the Lamborghini Countach.
The automobile of the 80s and 90s: a technological and aesthetic revolution
The years 1980 to 1999 marked a period of major transition in the automotive industry. This era saw the emergence of technologies that still equip our vehicles today: electronic fuel injection, ABS, power steering, air conditioning, etc. European manufacturers asserted their identity in the face of growing Japanese competition, giving birth to models that have become cult classics.
It was also the golden age of Italian automotive design , with creations by Pininfarina, Bertone and Giugiaro redefining aesthetic codes. Lines became taut and surfaces sculpted, creating instantly recognizable silhouettes that still mark contemporary automobiles.
This period also saw the advent of Japanese brands in Europe, with the arrival of Honda , Toyota , and Nissan , which changed habits with their legendary reliability and technological innovations.
When the car becomes a movie star
The retro Model cars in this collection immediately evoke the films and series that defined these decades. Who doesn't remember the DeLorean from "Back to the Future," the Ferrari Testarossa from "Miami Vice," or the BMW Z1 that inspired dreams in car magazines?
These vehicles have become true cultural icons , going beyond their simple status as objects of transport to become part of the collective imagination. They represent the technological optimism of the time, the emergence of new lifestyles, and the affirmation of a generation that was revolutionizing social codes.
It was also a time when automobiles became accessible to the masses, democratizing mobility and transforming our societies. French cars like the Peugeot 205 GTI and the Renault 5 Turbo became symbols of a generation discovering the joy of driving.

Did You Know? Anecdotes and Curiosities about our Miniatures
Why are 80s-90s cars so popular in model car?
This period marked the golden age of automotive design, with futuristic lines and significant technological innovations. Cars like the DeLorean DMC-12, the Lamborghini Countach, and the Ferrari Testarossa became cultural icons thanks to film and television, making their model cars highly sought after by collectors.
What is the difference between 1/43 and 1/64 scales for cars of this era?
The 1:43 scale faithfully reproduces the intricate details of cars from the 80s and 90s, including prominent spoilers and angular lines. The more compact 1:64 scale is ideal for complete collections because it requires less space while maintaining the characteristic proportions of this decade.
Why are some Japanese car models from the 80s so rare?
During the 1980s, many Japanese cars, such as the Nissan Skyline GT-R and the Toyota Supra, were not sold in Europe. As a result, model car manufacturers produced these models in limited quantities, mainly for the Asian market, which explains their current rarity and value.
How to recognize a real Burago model car from the 80s-90s from a reissue?
Authentic Buragos from this era have a heavy metal base with specific markings including 'Made in Italy' and the engraved Burago logo. Colors are often brighter and interior details finer. Recent reissues use different plastics and tend to be slightly lighter.
What's the most surprising fact about model car supercars from the 80s?
Polistil's model car Lamborghini Countach was so popular in the 1980s that it sold more copies than the real thing! With only 2,042 Countachs produced compared to several million model cars, many children discovered this legendary supercar through its model car reproduction before seeing the real thing.
