The Original Model: An Automotive Revolution

The Austin Mini was born in 1959 under the guidance of Alec Issigonis, a visionary engineer of the British Motor Corporation. Faced with the Suez Crisis and the need to create an economical car, Issigonis designed a revolutionary vehicle: transverse engine, front-wheel drive, and an optimized interior in a minimal footprint of only 3.05 meters.

This compact city car disrupted the conventions of its time with its 10-inch wheels pushed to the four corners, freeing up surprising interior space for four passengers. Its 848 cc engine provides 34 horsepower, delivering commendable performance while maintaining remarkably low fuel consumption.

The success was immediate: the Mini quickly became a social phenomenon, appealing to both the working class and celebrities. Its production extended over more than forty years, with over 5.3 million units sold worldwide.

Austin: The British Legacy

Founded in 1905 by Herbert Austin, the Austin brand quickly established itself as one of the pillars of the British automotive industry. In the 1960s, during the era of our blue Mini, Austin was part of the British Motor Corporation (BMC), an automotive giant formed from the merger with Morris in 1952.

This period represents the golden age of Austin, which developed innovative models aimed at democratizing the automobile. The brand emphasized traditional British engineering while embracing new technologies. The Austin Mini perfectly embodies this philosophy: simplicity, efficiency, and accessibility without compromising on the manufacturing quality that defines British cars.

The Mini: From the Blue Road to the Podiums

While our Austin Mini Blue evokes holidays on the National 7, this little Brit hides its prowess! Contrary to appearances, the Mini proved to be a formidable competitor in rallying. As early as 1964, it won the legendary Monte Carlo Rally, a feat it repeated in 1965 and 1967.

Its exceptional handling, due to its low center of gravity and mass distribution, makes it a formidable weapon on winding roads. Drivers Paddy Hopkirk, Timo Mäkinen, and Rauno Aaltonen wrote the most beautiful pages of its sporting record, proving that an everyday car can compete with the elite in motorsport.

This duality between popular car and racing machine greatly contributes to the legend of the Mini. On the French Riviera as in the Alps, it embodies the spirit of the sixties: optimism, modernity, and the democratization of driving pleasure.

Curiously, the Mini also became a symbol of the swinging sixties London fashion. From The Beatles to Carnaby Street models, this little blue car has crossed decades while retaining its charm and status as a cultural icon.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to understand the scales of miniatures?

Scale indicates the reduction ratio between the real car and the miniature. For example, at 1:43 scale, each centimeter on the miniature corresponds to 43 centimeters on the real vehicle.

Concretely, a 1/18 scale Ferrari model is approximately 25-30 cm long, while in 1/43 scale it measures approximately 10 cm.

What scales are available?

Our model cars are mainly offered in 1/43, 1/24, 1/18 and 1/87 (HO) scales. The scale is always indicated in the product sheet.

The smaller the second number, the larger the model car (e.g. 1/18 is larger than 1/43).

Does the model car come with protection?

Yes, each model car is systematically delivered in its protective box. This box preserves the collectible value and protects your model car from dust and shocks.

How is my package protected during transport?

We package each order with the utmost care: bubble wrap, appropriate cushioning, and polystyrene. Your model car is perfectly secure during its journey.

What is the delivery time?

In-stock items are shipped within 24-48 hours. Please allow 2-3 business days for France via Colissimo or 4-5 days via Mondial Relay.

The model car is no longer in stock, when will you have it?

It's impossible for me to know exactly when I'll receive a new stock because I receive arrivals in dribs and drabs. Please contact me so I can keep you informed as soon as it's available.
