The Original Model: Birth of a Legend

The Eldorado debuted in 1953 as a revolutionary concept car that would define the future of American automotive design. This first generation, produced between 1950 and 1953 based on prototypes, represented the culmination of Cadillac's craftsmanship in luxury and technical innovation.

Powered by a 331 cubic inch V8 engine delivering 210 horsepower, this Caddy convertible offered exceptional performance for its time. Its avant-garde design, with fluid lines and distinctive grille, foreshadowed the aesthetic codes that would dominate the American automotive industry for decades.

The success was immediate, although production remained confidential with only 532 units produced in 1953. This rarity helped to make the Eldorado an absolute object of desire, the ultimate symbol of social success in 1950s America.

Cadillac: American Excellence

Founded in 1902 by Henry Leland, Cadillac quickly established itself as the standard of American automotive luxury. In the 1950s, the brand was experiencing its golden age, spurred on by post-war optimism and American economic expansion. It was in this favorable context that the Eldorado project was born, aimed at pushing the boundaries of automotive luxury.

The time of the Eldorado's creation coincides with the height of American industrial power. Cadillac, a subsidiary of General Motors, had substantial resources to develop innovative technologies such as power steering, Hydra-Matic automatic transmission, and the first automotive air conditioning systems. These innovations, initially reserved for exceptional models like the Eldorado, would gradually democratize the entire range, consolidating the brand's reputation for technological excellence in prestigious foreign cars.

The Eldorado and the American Dream

The story of the Eldorado extends far beyond the automotive realm and into American popular culture. The name itself, inspired by the legendary South American city of gold, evokes the pursuit of success and prosperity that characterizes the 1950s American Dream.

This Cadillac rapidly became the indispensable attribute of Hollywood stars, industrial magnates, and political figures. Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, and Marilyn Monroe were photographed aboard their Eldorados, contributing to the legend of this exceptional model.

The Eldorado also symbolizes the emergence of American consumer society. In an era marked by technological optimism and economic prosperity, this Cadillac embodies the belief that technical progress can create increasingly beautiful, high-performing, and desirable objects.

Notably, the launch price of the 1953 Eldorado, set at $7,750, was equivalent to the cost of three standard family cars of the time, confirming its status as an absolute luxury item reserved for a wealthy elite.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to understand the scales of miniatures?

Scale indicates the reduction ratio between the real car and the miniature. For example, at 1:43 scale, each centimeter on the miniature corresponds to 43 centimeters on the real vehicle.

Concretely, a 1/18 scale Ferrari model is approximately 25-30 cm long, while in 1/43 scale it measures approximately 10 cm.

What scales are available?

Our model cars are mainly offered in 1/43, 1/24, 1/18 and 1/87 (HO) scales. The scale is always indicated in the product sheet.

The smaller the second number, the larger the model car (e.g. 1/18 is larger than 1/43).

Does the model car come with protection?

Yes, each model car is systematically delivered in its protective box. This box preserves the collectible value and protects your model car from dust and shocks.

How is my package protected during transport?

We package each order with the utmost care: bubble wrap, appropriate cushioning, and polystyrene. Your model car is perfectly secure during its journey.

What is the delivery time?

In-stock items are shipped within 24-48 hours. Please allow 2-3 business days for France via Colissimo or 4-5 days via Mondial Relay.

The model car is no longer in stock, when will you have it?

It's impossible for me to know exactly when I'll receive a new stock because I receive arrivals in dribs and drabs. Please contact me so I can keep you informed as soon as it's available.
