The Berliet 560 K, a Giant of the Road

The Berliet 560 K was developed in the early 1970s to meet the growing demands of long-distance transport in Europe. This heavy truck, capable of towing road sets of over 38 tons, marked Berliet's entry into the ranks of major European heavy-duty manufacturers.

Equipped with a 6-cylinder diesel engine producing 256 horsepower, the 560 K was distinguished by its legendary robustness and its ability to cover thousands of kilometers without failing. Its spacious and ergonomic cab provided unprecedented comfort for truck drivers, while its reinforced chassis enabled it to carry the heaviest loads.

This version specialized in beverage transport was particularly appreciated by large distribution groups and breweries, which found the reliability necessary for their daily deliveries across France and Europe.

Berliet, the Golden Age of the Lyon Manufacturer

During the development of the 560 K, Berliet was going through a remarkable period of expansion. Acquired by Citroën in 1967 and then integrated into the Renault Trucks group in 1974, the Lyon brand benefited from significant investments to modernize its range and conquer new markets.

Founded in 1899 by Marius Berliet, the Lyon company built its reputation on quality and innovation. A pioneer of road transport since the 1910s, Berliet had established itself as the French heavy-duty specialist, equipping both the military and civilian enterprises. From the famous military trucks of World War I to the luxury coaches of the 1950s, including desert construction trucks, Berliet had forged a reputation for technical excellence and robustness.

The 1970s represented the peak of this success story, with a complete range covering all segments of professional transport and strong international presence, especially in Africa and the Middle East.

The Epic of French Truckers

The Berliet 560 K was one of the privileged witnesses of the golden age of French truckers in the 1970s-1980s. At that time, truck drivers enjoyed a true status of popular heroes, embodying the spirit of adventure and freedom on European roads.

These giants of the road crisscrossed a budding Europe, transporting goods and dreams of a continent slowly unifying. The beverage transport represented a particularly strategic sector: beers, sodas, and mineral waters had to be delivered quickly and in perfect condition to points of sale, demanding reliable and efficient vehicles.

Drivers of the Berliet 560 K formed a true community, meeting in famous "routiers" - these relay restaurants that dotted the major routes. They shared their road experiences, creating a unique culture combining professional solidarity and passion for travel.

This era ended abruptly with the oil crisis and the massive arrival of foreign manufacturers, marking the gradual decline of the French heavy-duty industry and the end of a certain romantic notion of road transport.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to understand the scales of miniatures?

Scale indicates the reduction ratio between the real car and the miniature. For example, at 1:43 scale, each centimeter on the miniature corresponds to 43 centimeters on the real vehicle.

Concretely, a 1/18 scale Ferrari model is approximately 25-30 cm long, while in 1/43 scale it measures approximately 10 cm.

What scales are available?

Our model cars are mainly offered in 1/43, 1/24, 1/18 and 1/87 (HO) scales. The scale is always indicated in the product sheet.

The smaller the second number, the larger the model car (e.g. 1/18 is larger than 1/43).

Does the model car come with protection?

Yes, each model car is systematically delivered in its protective box. This box preserves the collectible value and protects your model car from dust and shocks.

How is my package protected during transport?

We package each order with the utmost care: bubble wrap, appropriate cushioning, and polystyrene. Your model car is perfectly secure during its journey.

What is the delivery time?

In-stock items are shipped within 24-48 hours. Please allow 2-3 business days for France via Colissimo or 4-5 days via Mondial Relay.

The model car is no longer in stock, when will you have it?

It's impossible for me to know exactly when I'll receive a new stock because I receive arrivals in dribs and drabs. Please contact me so I can keep you informed as soon as it's available.
