The original model: a vehicle of freedom

Launched in 1968, the Citroën Méhari was born from the desire to create an accessible and practical leisure vehicle. Developed on the technical basis of the Dyane, it stands out with its thermoformed ABS plastic bodywork, revolutionary for its time. This innovation allows not only for economical manufacturing but also offers exceptional corrosion resistance.

Originally designed for light utility use, the Méhari quickly finds its place as the ultimate holiday vehicle. Its removable hood, optional doors, and ease of cleaning make it the ideal companion for seaside stays and country getaways. The model immediately appeals to customers seeking authenticity and simplicity.

With over 144,000 units produced in twenty years, the Méhari achieves remarkable commercial success, quickly becoming a symbol of the French art of living and exporting to sunny destinations worldwide.

Citroën in the 1960s-70s

At the launch of the Méhari, Citroën experienced a period of intense innovation under the leadership of André Citroën and then Pierre Bercot. The chevron brand distinguishes itself with technical boldness through revolutionary models such as the DS, launched in 1955, which continues to impress with its technological feats.

This era also corresponds to the golden age of the French automotive industry. Citroën rivals its national competitors with ingenious, innovative vehicles that disrupt established codes. The Méhari fits perfectly into this corporate philosophy, offering a completely new approach to leisure vehicles. The brand cultivates its image as a visionary manufacturer, unafraid to take risks to propose original automotive solutions, as seen in this range of Citroën vehicles that have marked history.

A star of the big screen

The Méhari owes part of its fame to its numerous cinematic and television appearances. The vehicle quickly becomes a choice accessory for directors wanting to evoke the carefree spirit of the 70s. It notably appears in several films from the "Gendarmes" series with Louis de Funès, perfectly embodying the holiday spirit of Saint-Tropez.

Even more surprisingly, the Méhari crosses borders and enchants Hollywood. It appears in several American productions as a symbol of the french touch and the European art of living. This media exposure greatly contributes to forging its image as a vehicle of freedom and escape.

The Méhari also becomes the emblem of counter-culture movements in the 70s. Its simplicity, practicality, and affordable price make it the vehicle of choice for alternative communities and outdoor enthusiasts. It symbolizes a certain philosophy of life, far from the rampant consumerism of the time.

Even today, the Méhari continues to inspire creators and remains associated with a certain ideal of happy simplicity, particularly visible in the world of advertising and fashion, where it instantly evokes authenticity and a return to roots.

Complete your miniature collection

This Méhari naturally fits within the world of 1/43 scale miniatures, the reference scale for collectors. It harmonizes perfectly with the other models of the time, notably those from the 1970s, a prosperous period for French automobiles.

For enthusiasts of the era, this miniature forms a coherent set with other iconic vehicles of French vacations. It dialogues admirably with the Peugeot 504 family cars, the adventurous Renault 4L, or the bohemian Citroën 2CV. Together, these models tell the story of the democratization of automotive leisure in France.

This piece will particularly appeal to nostalgic collectors of paid holidays, enthusiasts of French automotive history, as well as fans of 70s design. It also serves as an excellent entry point for starting a themed collection around vehicles from the Blue Road, witnesses of a time when the automobile still rhymed with carefree exploration.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to understand the scales of miniatures?

Scale indicates the reduction ratio between the real car and the miniature. For example, at 1:43 scale, each centimeter on the miniature corresponds to 43 centimeters on the real vehicle.

Concretely, a 1/18 scale Ferrari model is approximately 25-30 cm long, while in 1/43 scale it measures approximately 10 cm.

What scales are available?

Our model cars are mainly offered in 1/43, 1/24, 1/18 and 1/87 (HO) scales. The scale is always indicated in the product sheet.

The smaller the second number, the larger the model car (e.g. 1/18 is larger than 1/43).

Does the model car come with protection?

Yes, each model car is systematically delivered in its protective box. This box preserves the collectible value and protects your model car from dust and shocks.

How is my package protected during transport?

We package each order with the utmost care: bubble wrap, appropriate cushioning, and polystyrene. Your model car is perfectly secure during its journey.

What is the delivery time?

In-stock items are shipped within 24-48 hours. Please allow 2-3 business days for France via Colissimo or 4-5 days via Mondial Relay.

The model car is no longer in stock, when will you have it?

It's impossible for me to know exactly when I'll receive a new stock because I receive arrivals in dribs and drabs. Please contact me so I can keep you informed as soon as it's available.
