Discover the 1942 Peugeot VLV (Light City Vehicle) in its original beige livery, faithfully reproduced at a 1/43 scale. This exceptional miniature from the Vintage Micro Cars collection captures the essence of a revolutionary vehicle that marked the history of French automobiles during World War II.
A true sought-after collectible, this detailed reproduction showcases French ingenuity in the face of wartime restrictions and is a must-have for any enthusiast of historical French automobiles.
The Peugeot VLV was born in 1941 out of an absolute necessity: to counter the gasoline shortage that struck occupied France. Faced with the prohibition of using fossil fuels for civilian vehicles, Peugeot developed this small electric urban vehicle, a true precursor to our modern electric cars.
Built on a super-light aluminum body, the VLV weighed only 350 kg and could reach speeds of 36 km/h. Its range of 80 kilometers made it perfectly suited for urban travel at the time. The vehicle stood out with its typically French characteristics and pragmatic approach to mobility.
Despite its confidential production of 377 units, the VLV enjoyed a notable success among professionals and individuals forced to find alternatives to traditional transport.
In 1942, Peugeot was going through one of its most difficult periods in its centennial history. Founded in 1810, the lion brand had already demonstrated its adaptability by transitioning from textiles to tools, and then to automobiles since 1889. During the Occupation, the company had to navigate the drastic restrictions imposed by the occupier.
The development of the VLV perfectly illustrates the spirit of innovation that has characterized Peugeot since its beginnings. This dark period pushed the engineers of Sochaux to completely rethink the automotive approach, anticipating current environmental concerns by several decades. This adaptability allowed Peugeot to develop its legendary range in the post-war period.
The story of the Peugeot VLV holds a surprising anecdote that perfectly illustrates the French spirit of resistance. Contrary to popular belief, this small electric vehicle was not only used by wealthy collaborators but quickly became the preferred tool of many Parisian resisters.
Its quiet operation made it an ideal vehicle for clandestine movements in Paris. Several testimonies report that members of resistance networks used these small beige cars to transport messages and supplies without attracting the attention of German patrols. The characteristic noise of gasoline engines was immediately recognizable, giving the VLV a significant tactical advantage.
Even more surprisingly, some units were hand-modified to carry small amounts of weapons or documents in secret compartments built into the floor. This diversion of what was officially a mere "city vehicle" reflects French ingenuity in the face of adversity and gives this automobile a unique historical dimension.
Today, this resistant aspect makes the VLV a symbol of ingenuity and resourcefulness that is distinctly French, well beyond its simple technical qualities of automotive innovation.
This 1942 Peugeot VLV occupies a special place in the world of French automobile miniatures. It not only represents an important technical milestone but also a unique historical testament to French ingenuity during the war. Its reproduction in 1/43 scale allows for an appreciation of the details of this revolutionary design.
For collectors passionate about vehicles from the 1940s, this miniature pairs perfectly with other models of the era. It also finds its place alongside modern concept cars, illustrating the continuity of French automotive innovation across decades. Enthusiasts of 1/43 scale miniatures will particularly appreciate the reproduction quality of this exceptional model, which testifies to an era when electric automobiles were already a French reality.
