The Renault Clio S1600 in Competition

The Clio S1600 represented Renault Sport’s commitment in the Super 1600 category, regulated by the FIA to invigorate national rally championships. Developed from the standard Clio RS, this competition version featured a 1600 cm³ atmospheric engine generating nearly 200 horsepower, coupled with optimised all-wheel drive for special stages.

This competition weapon distinguished itself with a stiffened chassis, adjustable suspension, and a limited-slip differential. Renault Sport engineers particularly focused on aerodynamics with a prominent rear wing and specific air extractors, visible on this miniature with its careful details.

The Rally Alsace-Vosges 2006 was a benchmark event in the French championship, where the Clio S1600 number 3 of Cédric Robert and Gérald Bedon shone against stiff competition, including the Peugeot 206 S1600 and other European rivals.

Renault and Competitive DNA

In 2006, Renault was enjoying a prosperous period in motorsport. The diamond brand dominated Formula 1 with Fernando Alonso as the reigning world champion while developing its rally activities through Renault Sport Technologies. This synergy between Formula 1 and rallying fueled technological innovation in production models.

The Renault Sport philosophy was based on optimizing the power-to-weight ratio and seeking aerodynamic efficiency. These principles, developed in competition, were found in the series Clio RS, creating a technical bridge between circuit and road. This holistic approach to motorsport allowed Renault to maintain its reputation as an engaged manufacturer, inherited from the rally victories of Alpine-Renault in the 1970s.

The Golden Age of Super 1600

The Super 1600 category represented one of the FIA’s most successful innovations in the early 2000s. Created to offer a less expensive alternative to World Rally Cars, this regulation imposed a maximum engine capacity of 1600 cm³, limiting the arms race for technology that characterized higher categories.

The Rally Alsace-Vosges was an ideal playground for these machines, with winding roads through the Vosges forests and fast sections in the Alsace plains. The event, established in 1971, had become a key event on the French calendar, attracting professional and amateur drivers alike in an exceptional natural setting.

This Renault Clio S1600 number 3 competed in a particularly competitive environment, where French and European manufacturers were engaged in fierce technological battles. Every detail counted: suspension settings, engine mapping, tire choices—everything competed to gain decisive tenths of seconds on the clock. This intensity is still felt today through this faithfully reproduced miniature.

The era also marked the peak of French rallying, with national events of exceptional technical levels and significant media coverage. French crews shone both on the hexagonal and international stages, perpetuating the tricolor tradition in rally motorsport initiated by the pioneers of the 1960s and 70s.

Complete Your Miniature Collection

This Renault Clio S1600 holds a prominent place in the world of contemporary rally miniatures. It fits perfectly alongside other Renault competition models and ideally completes a collection dedicated to cars from the 2000s.

Rally enthusiasts will appreciate its complementarity with other S1600 models of the era, creating a coherent set representative of this iconic category. It pairs beautifully with miniatures from other manufacturers engaged in this regulation, offering a comprehensive view of the hexagonal competition of the time.

This miniature will appeal to both experts in Renault sports cars and fans of 1/43 scale models, a reference scale offering the best compromise between detail fidelity and ease of display. Its historical authenticity and careful finish make it a reference model for any fan of French motorsport.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to understand the scales of miniatures?

Scale indicates the reduction ratio between the real car and the miniature. For example, at 1:43 scale, each centimeter on the miniature corresponds to 43 centimeters on the real vehicle.

Concretely, a 1/18 scale Ferrari model is approximately 25-30 cm long, while in 1/43 scale it measures approximately 10 cm.

What scales are available?

Our model cars are mainly offered in 1/43, 1/24, 1/18 and 1/87 (HO) scales. The scale is always indicated in the product sheet.

The smaller the second number, the larger the model car (e.g. 1/18 is larger than 1/43).

Does the model car come with protection?

Yes, each model car is systematically delivered in its protective box. This box preserves the collectible value and protects your model car from dust and shocks.

How is my package protected during transport?

We package each order with the utmost care: bubble wrap, appropriate cushioning, and polystyrene. Your model car is perfectly secure during its journey.

What is the delivery time?

In-stock items are shipped within 24-48 hours. Please allow 2-3 business days for France via Colissimo or 4-5 days via Mondial Relay.

The model car is no longer in stock, when will you have it?

It's impossible for me to know exactly when I'll receive a new stock because I receive arrivals in dribs and drabs. Please contact me so I can keep you informed as soon as it's available.
