This green canvas-back Renault Estafette pick-up, produced by Dinky-Toys in an Atlas edition, is an authentic tribute to the iconic French light commercial vehicle of the 1960s and 70s. This faithful miniature captures the practical, no-nonsense spirit of a workhorse that left its mark on French automotive history.
Listed as number 563, this replica is a must-have collectible for anyone passionate about French commercial vehicles and automotive history. It recalls the golden age of French carmakers and their knack for building vehicles that were both affordable and versatile.
Launched in 1959, the Renault Estafette was a real revolution in the light commercial segment. Designed for the growing needs of French craftsmen, shopkeepers and professionals, it stood out with its forward-thinking layout: engine under the floor and front-wheel drive.
This canvas-back pick-up version was all about versatility, with a practical loading bed protected by a removable tarpaulin. Compact on the outside yet roomy inside, the Estafette slipped easily through town traffic while still carrying a remarkable load for its class.
Sales were immediate and lasting, with more than 500,000 built until 1980. That longevity speaks to the soundness of the concept and the legendary toughness of a vehicle that kept pace with the economic boom of the Trente Glorieuses (the postwar "thirty glorious years" of growth).
In the 1950s, Renault was looking to broaden its range beyond passenger cars and win over the professional market. The diamond-badged maker, backed by its industrial experience and drive to innovate, was developing a bold new approach to light commercial vehicles.
The Estafette fit neatly into that strategy and marked Renault's entry into a new technological era. It was a time when French carmakers were at their peak, competing on ingenuity to deliver transport solutions tailored to the needs of the French market.
The Estafette's design reflected Renault's philosophy of the time: put technical innovation at the service of everyday practicality. It helped the brand stand out from European rivals and assert its expertise in commercial vehicles, a field that would become one of its recognized specialties.
Beyond its sales success, the Renault Estafette became a genuine French cultural icon, thanks in particular to its memorable appearances in many TV and film productions. It perfectly embodied the image of a France on the move in the 1960s and 70s, a period of economic expansion and modernization.
The Estafette was everywhere in French daily life: the bakers' delivery van, the craftsman's workhorse, the camper for the first paid holidays. That versatility made it a privileged witness to social change, riding along with new ways of living and consuming.
Its distinctive styling, with a smiling grille and rounded shapes, gave it a personality all its own, a welcome contrast to the usual austerity of commercial vehicles. This friendlier take on commercial design was revolutionary and created an emotional bond between drivers and their working vehicle.
Even today, the Estafette carries a special nostalgic aura, a symbol of an era when French motoring shone through its originality and technical daring. It remains one of the most instantly recognizable vehicles in France's automotive heritage.
This Renault Estafette Dinky-Toys pick-up fits naturally into a collection of French vehicles or light commercial vehicles. It sits beautifully alongside other iconic models from French production, creating a cohesive set that celebrates French automotive innovation.
Collectors who love Renault will especially appreciate this piece, which pairs perfectly with the Renault 4CV or the Estafette in its various versions. This miniature also appeals to fans of Dinky-Toys, a benchmark name in quality miniatures.
Beyond specialists in French miniatures, this Estafette will delight any automotive history enthusiast who wants a genuine record of the evolution of 1/43 scale vehicles. It's also a great introduction to thematic collections centered on the 1960s and 70s, a particularly rich period for French motoring.

The products match the photographs. They are very well packaged. The delivery is closely monitored by the manager. I recommend this site for collectors.
The scale is the reduction ratio between the real car and the model. At 1:43 scale, for example, every centimetre of the model represents 43 centimetres of the real vehicle.
In practice, a 1:18 Ferrari model is about 25–30 cm long, while at 1:43 it measures roughly 10 cm.
Our model cars mainly come in 1:43, 1:24, 1:18 and 1:87 (HO) scale. The scale is always listed on the product page.
The smaller the second number, the bigger the model (e.g. 1:18 is larger than 1:43).
Yes, every model car ships in its protective box. The box preserves its collector value and protects your model from dust and knocks.
We pack every order with great care: bubble wrap, snug padding and polystyrene. Your model car is fully secured on its way to you.
In-stock items ship within 24–48h. Allow 2–3 business days for mainland France with Colissimo, or 4–5 days with Mondial Relay.
I can't say exactly when new stock will arrive, as it comes in a trickle. Feel free to contact me and I'll let you know as soon as it's available.
