## Original Vehicle Description The SdKfz 234/2 Puma was developed by German industry between 1943 and 1944 to meet the growing need for armored reconnaissance in all theaters of operation. Based on the SdKfz 234 chassis, this eight-wheel-drive armored vehicle represented the culmination of German reconnaissance vehicle technology.

Armed with a 50mm KwK 39 cannon mounted in a fully rotating turret, the Puma possessed considerable firepower for its class. Its exceptional mobility, with a top speed of 85 km/h on roads, and its 30mm frontal protection made it a formidable opponent for the Allied forces.

Despite its remarkable qualities, only 101 examples of the Puma were produced between September 1943 and September 1944, mainly due to supply difficulties and the priority given to heavy tanks in the German war effort.

## Historical background and development

The SdKfz 234 program was part of the German armored reconnaissance doctrine developed before and during World War II. The German General Staff had identified the critical need for fast, well-armed vehicles capable of operating in the vanguard of the main armored formations.

The 234 series marked a significant evolution compared to previous German reconnaissance vehicles. Developed by Büssing-NAG , it benefited from feedback from the campaigns in France and Russia, where the limitations of light vehicles had been revealed in the face of increasingly effective anti-tank weaponry.

German industry, despite the constraints of total war, managed to create with the Puma a vehicle that combined mobility, protection and firepower in a particularly balanced way, prefiguring the modern concepts of reconnaissance combat vehicles.

One of the most notable stories of the Puma concerns the engagement of these tanks during the Battle of Normandy in 1944. Despite their small numbers, the Pumas of the 2nd Panzer Division impressed the Allied forces with their ability to appear and disappear quickly, harassing British and American armored columns.

One particularly famous episode relates how a Puma crew led by Obergefreiter Klaus Weber managed to destroy three Sherman tanks in the space of fifteen minutes near Villers-Bocage, before disappearing into the Normandy countryside. This action perfectly illustrated the philosophy of using these vehicles: hit hard and disappear.

After the war, the few Pumas captured intact were studied in detail by the Allies , influencing the development of future reconnaissance vehicles. American and British engineers were particularly impressed by the sophistication of the transmission system and the quality of the night vision optics fitted to some examples.

Today, the rare Pumas preserved in museums constitute key pieces of World War II weapons collections, testifying to an era when technical innovation served crucial strategic issues.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to understand the scales of miniatures?

Scale indicates the reduction ratio between the real car and the miniature. For example, at 1:43 scale, each centimeter on the miniature corresponds to 43 centimeters on the real vehicle.

Concretely, a 1/18 scale Ferrari model is approximately 25-30 cm long, while in 1/43 scale it measures approximately 10 cm.

What scales are available?

Our model cars are mainly offered in 1/43, 1/24, 1/18 and 1/87 (HO) scales. The scale is always indicated in the product sheet.

The smaller the second number, the larger the model car (e.g. 1/18 is larger than 1/43).

Does the model car come with protection?

Yes, each model car is systematically delivered in its protective box. This box preserves the collectible value and protects your model car from dust and shocks.

How is my package protected during transport?

We package each order with the utmost care: bubble wrap, appropriate cushioning, and polystyrene. Your model car is perfectly secure during its journey.

What is the delivery time?

In-stock items are shipped within 24-48 hours. Please allow 2-3 business days for France via Colissimo or 4-5 days via Mondial Relay.

The model car is no longer in stock, when will you have it?

It's impossible for me to know exactly when I'll receive a new stock because I receive arrivals in dribs and drabs. Please contact me so I can keep you informed as soon as it's available.
