The real car: Scandinavian sophistication

Launched in 2006, the second generation Volvo C70 marked the return of the Swedish brand to the luxury convertible segment. Developed in collaboration with Pininfarina, this convertible featured a resolutely modern design while retaining the aesthetic codes specific to Volvo: pure lines, balanced proportions and attention to detail.

The C70 stood out for its three-piece retractable hardtop, a technical feat that allowed the car to be transformed into a full convertible in under 30 seconds. This innovation, rare at the time, positioned the model as a reference in European automotive engineering.

Commercially, the C70 enjoyed modest success among customers seeking exclusivity and refinement, particularly in the American and European markets where Volvo's premium image was firmly established.

Volvo: the legacy of safety innovation

At the time of the second generation C70's launch, Volvo was going through a period of transformation under Ford Motor Company, which had acquired the brand in 1999. This era marked a desire to broaden the range towards more emotional segments, while preserving the core values of safety and quality that had built the brand's reputation since 1927.

Founded in Gothenburg by Assar Gabrielsson and Gustaf Larson, Volvo had quickly established itself as the global pioneer of automotive safety. From the invention of the three-point seat belt in 1959 to the most advanced protection systems, the Swedish brand had always placed occupant protection at the heart of its philosophy. This safety expertise was naturally reflected in the C70, which benefited from the latest passive and active protection innovations, including retractable safety roll bars specially designed for open-air driving.

A star of American screens

The Volvo C70 gained particular fame across the Atlantic thanks to its recurring presence in American film and television productions. The model became especially iconic after appearing in the TV series "The Vampire Diaries", where it was driven by one of the main characters. This media exposure helped reinforce the modern and desirable image of the Swedish brand among American audiences.

More surprising still, the C70 became the reference convertible in independent cinema of the 2000s and 2010s. Several directors chose this model to symbolise the quiet success of their characters, appreciating its clean design, which stood apart from the ostentation of German or Italian convertibles of the era.

This cultural popularity also influenced the used market, where C70s in certain specific colours, notably blue like our miniature, have kept their value particularly stable. Collectors of real cars now seek these "Hollywood" examples, creating a collecting phenomenon parallel to that of miniatures.

Finally, the C70 remains associated with a certain vision of Scandinavian luxury: accessible, functional and environmentally respectful. This "lagom" philosophy (the Swedish art of living with moderation and balance) continues to inspire enthusiasts of European automobiles seeking an alternative to the traditional codes of automotive prestige.

It harmonises perfectly with other models from the Burago range, renowned for the quality of its European reproductions. Collectors will particularly appreciate the opportunity to display it alongside other prestige convertibles or Volvo models to create a cohesive set dedicated to the Swedish brand.

Lovers of European miniatures will find it an ideal complement to their Nordic collections, while those focusing on modern models will appreciate its representation of the 2000s. This piece is equally suited to seasoned collectors and enthusiasts discovering the world of 1/43rd scale miniatures, a reference scale that combines detail with ease of display.

Frequently asked questions

How do model car scales work?

The scale is the reduction ratio between the real car and the model. At 1:43 scale, for example, every centimetre of the model represents 43 centimetres of the real vehicle.

In practice, a 1:18 Ferrari model is about 25–30 cm long, while at 1:43 it measures roughly 10 cm.

Which scales are available?

Our model cars mainly come in 1:43, 1:24, 1:18 and 1:87 (HO) scale. The scale is always listed on the product page.

The smaller the second number, the bigger the model (e.g. 1:18 is larger than 1:43).

Does the model come in a protective case?

Yes, every model car ships in its protective box. The box preserves its collector value and protects your model from dust and knocks.

How is my parcel protected in transit?

We pack every order with great care: bubble wrap, snug padding and polystyrene. Your model car is fully secured on its way to you.

How long does delivery take?

In-stock items ship within 24–48h. Allow 2–3 business days for mainland France with Colissimo, or 4–5 days with Mondial Relay.

The model is out of stock — when will you have it again?

I can't say exactly when new stock will arrive, as it comes in a trickle. Feel free to contact me and I'll let you know as soon as it's available.
