The DS, a French automotive revolution
Launched in October 1955 at the Paris Motor Show , the Citroën DS caused a real earthquake in the automotive world. Its futuristic design, imagined by Flaminio Bertoni, radically broke with the aesthetic codes of the time. The DS introduced revolutionary technical innovations such as oleopneumatic suspension , power steering and power disc brakes, placing Citroën at the forefront of global technology.
This exceptional sedan is distinguished by its aerodynamic bodywork with sculpted shapes, its directional headlights and its spacious interior offering unparalleled comfort. The "special" version represented by this miniature corresponds to the most refined finishes, notably offering elegant two-tone colors that further emphasize the modernity of its lines.
With more than 1.4 million units produced by 1975, the DS established itself as a major commercial and cultural success , exporting French know-how to the four corners of the world and having a lasting influence on automotive design.
Citroën in the golden age of innovation
In the 1950s, Citroën experienced a period of exceptional creative effervescence under the leadership of André Citroën and then Pierre Bercot. The chevron brand distinguished itself by its avant-garde approach, not hesitating to invest massively in research and development to offer new technical solutions.
This philosophy of innovation, inherited from the early days of the brand founded in 1919, reached its peak with the DS. Citroën then focused on technological differentiation rather than conservatism, a bold strategy that forged the unique identity of the French brand. This approach would later be found in our collections of Citroën model cars , testifying to this rich history of innovation.
The DS, movie star and presidential symbol
Beyond its technical prowess, the Citroën DS quickly achieved the status of cultural icon . It became the official car of the French Republic, transporting Presidents Charles de Gaulle and then Georges Pompidou. This consecration reached its climax on August 22, 1962, when a presidential DS literally saved General de Gaulle's life during the Petit-Clamart attack .
Despite fourteen bullet holes and the explosion of its rear tires, the DS managed to escape thanks to its revolutionary suspension which kept the car rolling. This dramatic episode definitively forged the legend of the "goddess" and spectacularly demonstrated the reliability of its technical innovations .
At the same time, the DS conquered the world of entertainment and became a movie star in its own right. From "Fantômas" to "The Matrix Reloaded," including the films of the New Wave, it embodied French modernity and French elegance. This cultural dimension partly explains the persistent enthusiasm of collectors for DS model cars, particularly appreciated in our collections of French cars .
The two-tone blue and white of this miniature evokes the official liveries often adopted for representative vehicles, recalling this protocol dimension which contributed to the prestige of the DS in the French collective unconscious.

Frequently Asked Questions
How to understand the scales of miniatures?
Scale indicates the reduction ratio between the real car and the miniature. For example, at 1:43 scale, each centimeter on the miniature corresponds to 43 centimeters on the real vehicle.
Concretely, a 1/18 scale Ferrari model is approximately 25-30 cm long, while in 1/43 scale it measures approximately 10 cm.
What scales are available?
Our model cars are mainly offered in 1/43, 1/24, 1/18 and 1/87 (HO) scales. The scale is always indicated in the product sheet.
The smaller the second number, the larger the model car (e.g. 1/18 is larger than 1/43).
Does the model car come with protection?
Yes, each model car is systematically delivered in its protective box. This box preserves the collectible value and protects your model car from dust and shocks.
How is my package protected during transport?
We package each order with the utmost care: bubble wrap, appropriate cushioning, and polystyrene. Your model car is perfectly secure during its journey.
What is the delivery time?
In-stock items are shipped within 24-48 hours. Please allow 2-3 business days for France via Colissimo or 4-5 days via Mondial Relay.
The model car is no longer in stock, when will you have it?
It's impossible for me to know exactly when I'll receive a new stock because I receive arrivals in dribs and drabs. Please contact me so I can keep you informed as soon as it's available.
