Scale 1/43
Discover this magnificent black Citroën LNA model car from 1981 , a faithful reproduction of one of the last iconic city cars from the French manufacturer. This collector's item perfectly captures the essence of this car, which marked a transitional era for Citroën.
Produced in 1/43rd scale with remarkable attention to detail , this model car is a precious testimony to the French automotive history of the 1980s. It will find its perfect place in any collection dedicated to French cars from this pivotal period.
The Citroën LNA (Liaison Nouvelle Automatique) was launched in November 1978 to replace the aging 2CV in the small city car segment. Developed in partnership with Peugeot as part of the "Axel" project, it shared its platform with the Peugeot 104, marking the beginning of rationalization within the PSA group.
This 3.61-meter-long city car was distinguished by its modern and functional lines , designed by the Citroën style center under the direction of Robert Opron. Offered with 652 cm³ and 954 cm³ gasoline engines, it offered a contemporary alternative to drivers wishing to remain faithful to the Citroën spirit while benefiting from modern comfort. The 1981 version represented by this model car corresponds to the latest evolutions of the model , with aesthetic and technical improvements that refined its character.
In 1981, Citroën was undergoing a period of profound transformation following its full integration into the PSA Peugeot-Citroën group. The brand with the chevrons sought to reconcile its heritage of innovation with the economic and technical imperatives imposed by this new industrial organization. The LNA embodied this transitional philosophy, preserving Citroën's DNA in a technically streamlined vehicle.
This period also marked the final years of production of iconic models like the 2CV and the Dyane, while the brand prepared for the advent of future successes like the BX. The LNA therefore represented an important milestone in this transformation, serving as a bridge between the era of "revolutionary" cars and that of more conventional models. Citroën model cars from this period bear witness to this unique creative wealth.
The Citroën LNA had an unexpected fate in the French television world of the 1980s. It became one of the favorite cars of the television series of the time, appearing regularly in productions on TF1 and Antenne 2. Its modern silhouette and compact size made it an ideal choice for filming in urban environments.
The most notable anecdote concerns its use in the series "Les Enquêtes du commissaire Maigret" starring Jean Richard. Several episodes in the late 1970s and early 1980s showed LNAs on the streets of Paris, helping to anchor the model in the French popular imagination. This media presence had a positive impact on sales, particularly among an urban female clientele who identified with the television characters driving these cars.
Even more surprisingly, the LNA even inspired a popular song by Michel Delpech in 1982, which evoked in its lyrics "this little black Citroën which crosses Paris". This cultural reference helped to make the LNA much more than a simple automobile: it became a symbol of accessible modernity and urban dynamism of the 1980s, a time when France was rediscovering optimism after the crises of the 1970s.
This black Citroën LNA naturally finds its place alongside other French icons of the 1980s , a period rich in automotive innovations. It fits perfectly with collections dedicated to French model cars and is an ideal complement to model cars from the 1980s .
Collectors passionate about the evolution of model car sedans will particularly appreciate this reproduction which illustrates the stylistic changes of the time. It fits harmoniously with other models of retro cars from 1980 to 1999 , allowing to create a coherent panorama of this abundant automotive decade. This model car will appeal to both those nostalgic for this era and young collectors discovering French automotive history through the classic models which marked the French roads.
