A Revolutionary Model of Popular Automobile

Launched in March 1955, the Fiat 600 was born from the vision of Dante Giacosa, the brilliant engineer who revolutionized the concept of the popular car. Designed to motorize post-war Italy, it adopted an innovative architecture with its air-cooled rear engine of 633 cm³, initially developing 21.5 horsepower. This configuration allowed for optimized habitability while maintaining compact exterior dimensions.

The 600 stands out with its modern self-supporting body, its true four seats despite its 3.22 meters in length, and remarkable fuel efficiency. Its design prioritizes urban practicality with precise steering, a tight turning radius, and moderate consumption, qualities that quickly made it the preferred choice for European families.

The commercial success was immediate and lasting: over 2.6 million units were produced until 1969, making the 600 one of the best-selling Italian cars of all time, exported worldwide and assembled under license in several countries.

Fiat: Innovation for Automotive Democratization

In the 1950s, Fiat established itself as a pioneer of mass motorization in Europe. Drawing on its experience with the Topolino, the Turin brand developed a unique expertise in the design of compact and affordable vehicles. The 600 perfectly aligns with this corporate philosophy aimed at making cars accessible to the largest number of people.

Founded in 1899, Fiat navigated the post-war era with the ambition to transform rural Italy into a modern industrial society. Under the guidance of Vittorio Valletta, the company invested heavily in technological innovation and production lines, allowing it to offer reliable vehicles at competitive prices. The 600 embodies this modern industrial vision, foreshadowing the Italian economic miracle of the 1960s.

The Car that Motored Europe

The story of the Fiat 600 goes far beyond the automobile realm, anchoring itself in European social history. In Spain, produced under license by SEAT as the "Seiscientos", it quickly became a symbol of the emancipation of the Spanish middle classes. Thousands of families discovered paid holidays and beach vacations through it, profoundly transforming social habits.

In Yugoslavia, the 600 had a particular destiny under the name "Zastava 750". Adapted to local conditions, it allowed Tito's regime to democratize the automobile in a communist country, creating a unique economic model between East and West. This Yugoslav version was exported to many countries, demonstrating the universality of Giacosa's concept.

The most delightful anecdote remains the record of occupancy set in 1957: 32 Italian students managed to cram into a 600, a feat that made headlines across Europe and helped forge the legend of this small city car. This daring achievement perfectly illustrated the versatility and space optimization characteristic of this revolutionary model.

The 600 also inspired the world of entertainment: it became the star of numerous Italian films from the 1960s, embodying the optimism and carefreeness of the "Dolce Vita", a golden period of Transalpine cinema that still fascinates today.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to understand the scales of miniatures?

Scale indicates the reduction ratio between the real car and the miniature. For example, at 1:43 scale, each centimeter on the miniature corresponds to 43 centimeters on the real vehicle.

Concretely, a 1/18 scale Ferrari model is approximately 25-30 cm long, while in 1/43 scale it measures approximately 10 cm.

What scales are available?

Our model cars are mainly offered in 1/43, 1/24, 1/18 and 1/87 (HO) scales. The scale is always indicated in the product sheet.

The smaller the second number, the larger the model car (e.g. 1/18 is larger than 1/43).

Does the model car come with protection?

Yes, each model car is systematically delivered in its protective box. This box preserves the collectible value and protects your model car from dust and shocks.

How is my package protected during transport?

We package each order with the utmost care: bubble wrap, appropriate cushioning, and polystyrene. Your model car is perfectly secure during its journey.

What is the delivery time?

In-stock items are shipped within 24-48 hours. Please allow 2-3 business days for France via Colissimo or 4-5 days via Mondial Relay.

The model car is no longer in stock, when will you have it?

It's impossible for me to know exactly when I'll receive a new stock because I receive arrivals in dribs and drabs. Please contact me so I can keep you informed as soon as it's available.
