History of the Original Model

The Fiat Dino Spider was born in 1966 from an exceptional collaboration between Fiat and Ferrari. This elegant roadster was powered by the famous 2.0-liter V6 engine designed by Enzo Ferrari himself, the same block used in the Dino 206 GT. This alliance allowed Ferrari to comply with Formula 2 regulations, which required the production of at least 500 units of the engine.

Coachbuilt by Pininfarina, the Dino Spider stood out with its pure and elegant lines, characteristic of Italian design in the 1960s. With its 160 horsepower, it offered remarkable performance for the time, capable of reaching 200 km/h. Production ended in 1973 after about 1,163 units, making it a true rarity today.

Fiat in the 1960s

During this period, Fiat experienced remarkable expansion under the leadership of Gianni Agnelli. The Turin brand sought to diversify its range beyond the small popular cars that had established its reputation. The Dino Spider represented this ambition to conquer the high-end sports car market.

This collaboration with Ferrari marked a strategic turning point for Fiat, which wanted to benefit from the technical expertise and prestige of the Maranello manufacturer. The operation was a success, allowing Fiat to temporarily establish itself in the prestigious roadster segment, traditionally dominated by German and British brands.

A Collaboration Born from Regulation

The story of the Fiat Dino Spider perfectly illustrates how regulatory constraints can give rise to the most beautiful automotive creations. In 1965, the International Automobile Federation imposed a new rule for Formula 2: engines used in racing must be produced in at least 500 units for production cars.

Ferrari, which had just developed its magnificent Dino V6 to equip future race cars, found itself unable to produce such a volume with its limited capabilities. It was then that Fiat intervened, proposing a win-win agreement: to use this Ferrari engine in its own models to meet the required quota.

This union gave birth to two exceptional models: the Fiat Dino Spider and the Dino coupe, allowing Ferrari to homologate its engine. Ironically, this regulatory constraint enabled the creation of one of the most beautiful collaborations in Italian automotive history, giving rise to cars that are now among the most sought after by collectors.

The Fiat Dino Spider thus became the symbol of an era when Italian ingenuity turned obstacles into creative opportunities, forever marking the history of prestige automobiles.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to understand the scales of miniatures?

Scale indicates the reduction ratio between the real car and the miniature. For example, at 1:43 scale, each centimeter on the miniature corresponds to 43 centimeters on the real vehicle.

Concretely, a 1/18 scale Ferrari model is approximately 25-30 cm long, while in 1/43 scale it measures approximately 10 cm.

What scales are available?

Our model cars are mainly offered in 1/43, 1/24, 1/18 and 1/87 (HO) scales. The scale is always indicated in the product sheet.

The smaller the second number, the larger the model car (e.g. 1/18 is larger than 1/43).

Does the model car come with protection?

Yes, each model car is systematically delivered in its protective box. This box preserves the collectible value and protects your model car from dust and shocks.

How is my package protected during transport?

We package each order with the utmost care: bubble wrap, appropriate cushioning, and polystyrene. Your model car is perfectly secure during its journey.

What is the delivery time?

In-stock items are shipped within 24-48 hours. Please allow 2-3 business days for France via Colissimo or 4-5 days via Mondial Relay.

The model car is no longer in stock, when will you have it?

It's impossible for me to know exactly when I'll receive a new stock because I receive arrivals in dribs and drabs. Please contact me so I can keep you informed as soon as it's available.
