Description of the Actual Model

The Lamborghini Jarama was launched in 1970 to replace the Islero in the range of the Sant'Agata Bolognese manufacturer. Designed by Marcello Gandini at Bertone, this 2+2 GT embodied Lamborghini's desire to offer a more civilized sports car, capable of combining pure performance with everyday driving comfort.

The 1972 GTS model featured a 4.0-liter V12 engine developing 365 horsepower, enabling it to reach speeds of 260 km/h. Its bodywork, with tense and angular lines characteristic of Gandini's style, housed a carefully appointed interior with leather seats and complete instrumentation. This Lamborghini miniature is a testament to the technical excellence of that era.

Although only 328 units were produced between 1970 and 1976, the Jarama gained esteem among a discerning clientele, notably due to its superior habitability compared to other models in the range and its exceptional road qualities.

Brand Description

In 1972, Lamborghini was going through a pivotal period in its history. Founded in 1963 by Ferruccio Lamborghini, the brand quickly established itself as a credible rival to Ferrari with revolutionary models like the Miura. At that time, the company sought to diversify its range to attract a broader clientele while maintaining its sporty DNA.

Lamborghini’s philosophy was based on technical innovation and avant-garde design, in close collaboration with the most prestigious Italian coachbuilders like Bertone. This approach allowed the brand to develop vehicles with unique character, combining exceptional performance and revolutionary aesthetics, firmly establishing Lamborghini among the most respected sports car manufacturers in the world.

The Anecdote of the Jarama

The name "Jarama" draws its origins from the bullfighting tradition dear to Ferruccio Lamborghini, referring to the fighting bulls bred in the Jarama region near Madrid. This naming followed the lineage of other models from the brand, all named after famous bulls or renowned breeding farms.

A particularly savory anecdote concerns the genesis of the project. Ferruccio Lamborghini initially wanted the Jarama to be equipped with an automatic transmission, a revolutionary innovation for an Italian sports car of that time. However, engineers and the first test customers firmly opposed this idea, believing that a “true” Lamborghini could only have a manual gearbox.

The 1972 Jarama GTS also marked the peak of collaboration between Lamborghini and Bertone. Marcello Gandini, the bodywork designer, had just completed the plans for the future Countach, and certain stylistic elements in the lines of the Jarama foreshadowed this future icon. This aesthetic kinship gives the Jarama a special place in the history of Italian automotive design today.

Unlike other Lamborghinis of the time known for their challenging everyday drivability, the Jarama stood out for its more docile character, earning it the affectionate nickname of “gentleman's Lamborghini” in the specialized press of the time.

Complete Your Miniature Collection

This Lamborghini Jarama GTS naturally fits alongside other iconic Italian sports cars from the 1970s. It harmonizes perfectly with other Lamborghini models from this golden period, including the Miura or the Espada, to create a coherent set that represents transalpine excellence.

Collectors passionate about GT coupes will also enjoy pairing it with Ferrari Daytonas, Maserati Ghiblis, or De Tomaso Panteras, thus creating a comprehensive panorama of European supercars from this legendary decade. This miniature at 1/43 scale is particularly aimed at automotive history enthusiasts and exceptional mechanics aficionados who wish to preserve the memory of these masterpieces that have become exceedingly rare today.
