Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 1966, the Lamborghini Miura revolutionized the world of sports cars. Designed by a team of young engineers led by Gian Paolo Dallara, Paolo Stanzani, and Bob Wallace, it introduced a revolutionary architecture with its V12 engine mounted in a transverse mid-rear position.
The design, by Marcello Gandini at Bertone, established the aesthetic codes of modern supercars. Its taut lines and low silhouette (only 1.05 meters high) instantly make it a reference. The 3.9-liter V12 produces between 350 and 385 horsepower depending on the version, propelling this Italian beauty to over 280 km/h.

In the mid-1960s, Automobili Lamborghini was still a young company founded three years earlier by Ferruccio Lamborghini. The Italian industrialist, initially specialized in agricultural tractors, had a clear ambition: to compete with Ferrari in the field of grand touring cars.
The creation of the Miura marks a turning point in the history of the bull brand. While the early Lamborghinis like the 350 GT remained relatively conventional, the Miura propelled Sant'Agata Bolognese to the rank of the most innovative supercar manufacturers. This technical and aesthetic boldness definitively forged Lamborghini's identity, establishing its reputation as a revolutionary manufacturer compared to traditional Ferraris.
The most fascinating story of the Miura is that of its clandestine birth. In 1965, the three young Lamborghini engineers secretly developed this revolutionary project in their spare time, without Ferruccio Lamborghini's initial consent. They first presented only the bare chassis at the Turin Motor Show, immediately generating public excitement.
In light of the success of this presentation, Ferruccio Lamborghini decided to continue the project and commissioned the bodywork from Bertone. Marcello Gandini, then only 27 years old, designed in a few months this silhouette that would become legendary. The name "Miura" pays tribute to the Spanish bullfighting breeding of Don Eduardo Miura, perpetuating Lamborghini's tradition of bull-related names.
The Miura quickly became the symbol of Swinging London and the Italian dolce vita. Celebrities like Frank Sinatra, Miles Davis, and even the Shah of Iran owned one. It appeared in many films, notably in the iconic opening sequence of the 1969 film "The Italian Job," where an orange Miura drives through the Alps with music.
This supercar profoundly influenced the automotive culture of the 70s and directly inspired future models of the brand, from Countach to modern Murciélago.
