Scale 1/43
This faithful reproduction of the red and white Lotus Type 49B number 5 captures the essence of a Formula 1 legend. At 1:43 scale, this precision miniature pays tribute to one of the most revolutionary single-seaters in the history of motorsport, the one that ushered in the advent of the Ford-Cosworth DFV engine and forever transformed the F1 landscape.
Developed in 1968 by Colin Chapman, the Lotus Type 49B represents the natural evolution of the original Type 49. This single-seater marked a decisive turning point in Formula 1 with the introduction of the Ford-Cosworth DFV engine, which would dominate the sport for nearly fifteen years. Chapman's philosophy of "add lightness then simplify" finds its purest expression here.
The Type 49B differed from its predecessor by the addition of front and rear wings, a revolutionary aerodynamic innovation for the time. These appendages, initially controversial, quickly became indispensable and paved the way for modern aerodynamics in Formula 1 .
The number 5 of this Lotus Type 49B immediately brings to mind Jochen Rindt, the only posthumous world champion in the history of F1. The Austrian, an exceptional driver with spectacular style, won five victories with this car in 1970. His unique way of driving in controlled drifts, with the rear wheels often sliding, fascinated the public and terrified his mechanics.
A famous anecdote tells of how, after a victory in Monaco in 1970, Rindt confided to his wife: "This car makes me feel like I'm flying above the track." Unfortunately, this feeling of freedom hid a structural weakness that would cost the driver his life during the Monza tests, a few months before he posthumously won the world title.
This miniature is a perfect addition to any collection dedicated to Lotus or legendary racing cars . It represents a precious testimony to an era when technical innovation took precedence over safety, when drivers were true gladiators, and when each race could change the history of the championship. A must-have for any motorsport enthusiast eager to own a piece of the golden age of Formula 1.

Same day shipping of the order. Delivery 2 days later at a parcel shop. Miniatures very well packaged, surrounded by bubble wrap and immersed in polystyrene chips, all in a very sturdy box. Miniatures that correspond exactly to the photographs on the site. And, moreover, a handwritten note slipped into the package. I will reorder.
