History of the MP4/14 model

The McLaren MP4/14 represents the culmination of several years of technical development at McLaren. Designed by Adrian Newey and his team, this single-seater was powered by the Mercedes-Benz FO110H V10 engine, developing approximately 790 horsepower. The MP4/14 was distinguished by its particularly rigid carbon fiber chassis and advanced aerodynamic innovations for the time.

Driven by Finland's Mika Häkkinen (number 1) and Scotland's David Coulthard (number 2), this McLaren marked the 1999 season by its competitiveness against the formidable Ferrari F399 of Michael Schumacher and Eddie Irvine. Despite fierce competition, the MP4/14 allowed McLaren to win the constructors' championship and Häkkinen his second consecutive world title.

The anecdote of the 1999 Japanese Grand Prix

The most memorable moment of the number 1 MP4/14 remains without a doubt the 1999 Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka. Mika Häkkinen arrived with just a 4-point lead over Eddie Irvine in the championship. Under enormous pressure, the Finnish driver delivered a perfectly controlled race, taking victory and thus securing his second world title.

This victory was all the more symbolic as it interrupted the Ferrari domination that seemed to be taking shape at the end of the season. Häkkinen's black and grey MP4/14 crossing the finish line first remains one of the most striking images of this golden era of McLaren Formula 1 .

Comment comprendre les échelles des miniatures ?

L'échelle indique le rapport de réduction entre la vraie voiture et la miniature. Par exemple, à l'échelle 1/43, chaque centimètre de la miniature correspond à 43 centimètres sur le véhicule réel.

Concrètement, une Ferrari miniature au 1/18 fait environ 25-30 cm de long, tandis qu'au 1/43 elle mesure approximativement 10 cm.
