The original model: a symbol of Renault's renewal
Launched in 1959, the Renault Floride marked a complete break with the traditional image of the diamond brand. This 2+2 convertible embodied Renault's desire to attract a young and affluent clientele, in search of elegance and modernity. The Hard-Top version, introduced in 1962, offered the charm of a coupe while maintaining the sporty DNA of the model.
Equipped with a 4-cylinder engine of 845 cm³ and then 956 cm³, the Floride prioritized style over pure performance. Its lines, designed by Pietro Frua at Ghia, revealed a graceful and modern silhouette, with its characteristic grille and generous chrome details. This automobile represented the Mediterranean art of living and the sweetness of life in the Sixties.
Although its commercial career was modest with around 170,000 units produced, the Floride left a lasting impression and remains today one of the most iconic models from this pivotal period in the French automobile industry.
Renault in the 1960s: the era of renewal
The 1960s represented a period of major transformation for Renault. Under the leadership of Pierre Dreyfus, the public company sought to modernize its image and diversify its range. Following the popular success of the 4CV, the brand aimed to conquer new segments, particularly that of leisure and luxury cars.
This decade saw the birth of bold models like the R8, R16, and of course the Floride. Renault was investing heavily in design and did not hesitate to call on renowned Italian coachbuilders to create automobiles with refined aesthetics. This strategy allowed the company to compete with European rivals while asserting a distinctive French style.
The era also corresponded to Renault's international expansion, with the development of new markets and the pursuit of a premium image that would later culminate in the Alpine alliance.
An unexpected movie star
The Renault Floride enjoyed a second life thanks to the seventh art and television. In the 1960s and 1970s, it regularly appeared in French productions, perfectly embodying the image of the modern and emancipated young woman. Its natural elegance and photogenic lines made it a favorite choice among directors.
The model was particularly appreciated on the Côte d'Azur, where its Mediterranean silhouette blended harmoniously into the sunny landscapes. Many celebrities of the time, actresses and singers, contributed to its reputation as a
Frequently Asked Questions
How to understand the scales of miniatures?
Scale indicates the reduction ratio between the real car and the miniature. For example, at 1:43 scale, each centimeter on the miniature corresponds to 43 centimeters on the real vehicle.
Concretely, a 1/18 scale Ferrari model is approximately 25-30 cm long, while in 1/43 scale it measures approximately 10 cm.
What scales are available?
Our model cars are mainly offered in 1/43, 1/24, 1/18 and 1/87 (HO) scales. The scale is always indicated in the product sheet.
The smaller the second number, the larger the model car (e.g. 1/18 is larger than 1/43).
Does the model car come with protection?
Yes, each model car is systematically delivered in its protective box. This box preserves the collectible value and protects your model car from dust and shocks.
How is my package protected during transport?
We package each order with the utmost care: bubble wrap, appropriate cushioning, and polystyrene. Your model car is perfectly secure during its journey.
What is the delivery time?
