This green 1936 SIMCA 5 delivery van is an iconic model of the pre-war French light commercial vehicle, faithfully reproduced at 1/43 scale. This collector's miniature captures with precision the characteristic lines of this commercial vehicle that left its mark on the history of French utility vehicles.
Designed for collectors passionate about French cars and period utility vehicles, this miniature replica is a precious testament to the automotive ingenuity of the 1930s.
The SIMCA 5 delivery van was launched in 1936, derived from the commercial adaptation of the famous SIMCA 5 saloon introduced the previous year. This commercial version met the growing needs of French craftsmen and shopkeepers looking for a compact, economical and practical vehicle for urban deliveries.
Powered by a 570 cc 4-cylinder engine producing 13 horsepower, this van offered a payload of 200 kg, making it the ideal tool for small transporters of the era. Its robust design and easy maintenance quickly made it a commercial success with French professionals.
In 1936, SIMCA (Société Industrielle de Mécanique et Carrosserie Automobile) had only been around for a year. Founded by Henri Théodore Pigozzi with the backing of Fiat, the French brand embarked on its automotive venture with the ambition of making car ownership accessible across France. The SIMCA 5, directly inspired by the Fiat Topolino, marked the first steps of a company that would become one of France's major carmakers.
This period corresponds to the founding years of SIMCA, when the company based in Nanterre was developing its strategy for affordable and utility vehicles. The SIMCA 5 delivery van perfectly illustrated this philosophy: offering accessible and practical transport solutions to the French.
The green SIMCA 5 delivery van of 1936 embodied the entrepreneurial spirit of pre-war France. Its green colour, particularly popular at the time, was often chosen by grocers and market gardeners who drove through the streets of Paris and the provinces. These small vans quickly became a familiar sight in the French urban landscape.
The year 1936 also marked the rise of the Popular Front and the introduction of paid holidays. Paradoxically, while the French were discovering leisure, the SIMCA 5 delivery van represented the daily toil of the craftsmen and small shopkeepers who formed the backbone of the French economy. These vehicles carried the baker's bread, the greengrocer's vegetables or the craftsman's tools.
One story tells of a Parisian baker from the 11th arrondissement who owned a green SIMCA 5 delivery van identical to this miniature and nicknamed his vehicle "Pépère" because it was so reliable. He used it without interruption until 1952, driving daily through the cobbled streets of his neighbourhood to deliver baguettes and croissants to the local bistros.
These vans also reflected changing attitudes: for the first time, many small shopkeepers could afford a new commercial vehicle, a symbol of a certain social success in the France of the 1930s.
This SIMCA 5 delivery van fits perfectly into a collection dedicated to French vehicles or period light commercial vehicles. It sits well alongside other SIMCA models to trace the evolution of this iconic marque.
Collectors passionate about pre-war cars will appreciate the quality of this miniature, which faithfully captures the essence of the utility vehicles that shaped the French urban landscape. It pairs harmoniously with other collectible vans to create an authentic representation of the commercial vehicle fleet of the 1930s.
This piece will especially appeal to enthusiasts of French automotive history, collectors of vintage vehicles and anyone interested in the evolution of urban commercial transport. It is a precious testament to an era when the French utility vehicle was taking off.

The products match the photographs. They are very well packaged. The delivery is closely monitored by the manager. I recommend this site for collectors.
The scale is the reduction ratio between the real car and the model. At 1:43 scale, for example, every centimetre of the model represents 43 centimetres of the real vehicle.
In practice, a 1:18 Ferrari model is about 25–30 cm long, while at 1:43 it measures roughly 10 cm.
Our model cars mainly come in 1:43, 1:24, 1:18 and 1:87 (HO) scale. The scale is always listed on the product page.
The smaller the second number, the bigger the model (e.g. 1:18 is larger than 1:43).
Yes, every model car ships in its protective box. The box preserves its collector value and protects your model from dust and knocks.
We pack every order with great care: bubble wrap, snug padding and polystyrene. Your model car is fully secured on its way to you.
In-stock items ship within 24–48h. Allow 2–3 business days for mainland France with Colissimo, or 4–5 days with Mondial Relay.
I can't say exactly when new stock will arrive, as it comes in a trickle. Feel free to contact me and I'll let you know as soon as it's available.
