## The Jagdpanzer V Jagdpanther: German technical excellence

Developed from 1943 onwards, the Jagdpanther represented the culmination of German tank destroyers during World War II. Based on the Panther chassis, this vehicle combined remarkable mobility with devastating armament: the 88mm PaK 43/3 L/71 anti-tank gun, capable of penetrating most Allied armor at considerable distances.

Its distinctive silhouette, with its low, angular profile , provided excellent frontal protection with a thickness of 100 mm while minimizing its detectability on the battlefield. Weighing 46 tonnes, the Jagdpanther had a top speed of 46 km/h, remarkable for a vehicle of this class.

Despite its exceptional qualities, only 415 examples were produced between January 1944 and March 1945, due to industrial constraints and Allied bombings of German factories.

## German industry under pressure

In 1944, the German arms industry operated under extremely difficult conditions. Production of the Jagdpanther was handled primarily by MIAG (Maschinenfabrik und Eisengießerei AG) in Brunswick, amidst a shortage of raw materials and constant Allied bombing.

Germany then focused on quality over quantity, developing technologically superior but complex-to-produce vehicles. This strategy, embodied by the Jagdpanther, reflected German defensive doctrine during this late period of the conflict, favoring weapons capable of compensating for numerical inferiority through combat effectiveness.

The history of this production illustrates the contradictions of the German war effort: remarkable innovations in an increasingly precarious industrial context, testifying to the gap between the technical ambitions and the economic realities of the Reich.

The Ghost of the Ardennes

The engagement of the Schwere Panzerjäger-Abteilung 559 in Luxembourg during the winter of 1944-1945 was part of the Ardennes Offensive , the last major German attempt to turn the tide of the war in the west. This elite unit, equipped with Jagdpanthers, was tasked with countering American armor in the Luxembourg valleys.

German crews nicknamed their Jagdpanthers the "green ghosts" because of their ability to strike from camouflaged positions before disappearing into the winter mist of the Ardennes forests. A single Jagdpanther from this unit destroyed seven Sherman tanks in a single ambush near Echternach, illustrating the formidable effectiveness of these tank destroyers.

Paradoxically, several Jagdpanthers of the 559th were abandoned not because of combat, but because of mechanical failures and lack of fuel. This technical reality contrasted cruelly with their combat performance, symbolizing the German logistical difficulties at the end of the war.

Today, the remains of these engagements are still discovered in the Luxembourg forests, recalling the intensity of the winter fighting of 1944-1945 and the role played by these formidable tank destroyers in the final throes of the European conflict.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to understand the scales of miniatures?

Scale indicates the reduction ratio between the real car and the miniature. For example, at 1:43 scale, each centimeter on the miniature corresponds to 43 centimeters on the real vehicle.

Concretely, a 1/18 scale Ferrari model is approximately 25-30 cm long, while in 1/43 scale it measures approximately 10 cm.

What scales are available?

Our model cars are mainly offered in 1/43, 1/24, 1/18 and 1/87 (HO) scales. The scale is always indicated in the product sheet.

The smaller the second number, the larger the model car (e.g. 1/18 is larger than 1/43).

Does the model car come with protection?

Yes, each model car is systematically delivered in its protective box. This box preserves the collectible value and protects your model car from dust and shocks.

How is my package protected during transport?

We package each order with the utmost care: bubble wrap, appropriate cushioning, and polystyrene. Your model car is perfectly secure during its journey.

What is the delivery time?

In-stock items are shipped within 24-48 hours. Please allow 2-3 business days for France via Colissimo or 4-5 days via Mondial Relay.

The model car is no longer in stock, when will you have it?

It's impossible for me to know exactly when I'll receive a new stock because I receive arrivals in dribs and drabs. Please contact me so I can keep you informed as soon as it's available.
