Scale 1/18th
There is a slight play in the doors once closed (in the lower part of the doors; the latter do not close completely (see photos 5 and 6).
The opening/closing of the doors is fragile and it is best to avoid opening/closing them. For your information, when opening the driver's side door, the door came loose but was put back and the O/C works but it remains very fragile.
This 1:18 scale Citroën DS special in blue and white roof from Solido captures all the revolutionary elegance of the most iconic French automobile of the 20th century. This faithful reproduction highlights the sophisticated two-tone design that characterized the top-of-the-range versions of the goddess, with its blue bodywork contrasting harmoniously with its white roof.
Intended for the most demanding collectors, this large-scale miniature allows you to appreciate in every detail the stylistic audacity that made the DS an aesthetic and technical revolution when it was presented at the Paris Motor Show in 1955.
Launched in October 1955 at the Paris Motor Show , the Citroën DS caused a real earthquake in the automotive world. Its futuristic design, imagined by Flaminio Bertoni, radically broke with the aesthetic codes of the time. The DS introduced revolutionary technical innovations such as oleopneumatic suspension , power steering and power disc brakes, placing Citroën at the forefront of global technology.
This exceptional sedan is distinguished by its aerodynamic bodywork with sculpted shapes, its directional headlights and its spacious interior offering unparalleled comfort. The "special" version represented by this miniature corresponds to the most refined finishes, notably offering elegant two-tone colors that further emphasize the modernity of its lines.
With more than 1.4 million units produced by 1975, the DS established itself as a major commercial and cultural success , exporting French know-how to the four corners of the world and having a lasting influence on automotive design.
In the 1950s, Citroën experienced a period of exceptional creative effervescence under the leadership of André Citroën and then Pierre Bercot. The chevron brand distinguished itself by its avant-garde approach, not hesitating to invest massively in research and development to offer new technical solutions.
This philosophy of innovation, inherited from the early days of the brand founded in 1919, reached its peak with the DS. Citroën then focused on technological differentiation rather than conservatism, a bold strategy that forged the unique identity of the French brand. This approach would later be found in our collections of Citroën model cars , testifying to this rich history of innovation.
Beyond its technical prowess, the Citroën DS quickly achieved the status of cultural icon . It became the official car of the French Republic, transporting Presidents Charles de Gaulle and then Georges Pompidou. This consecration reached its climax on August 22, 1962, when a presidential DS literally saved General de Gaulle's life during the Petit-Clamart attack .
Despite fourteen bullet holes and the explosion of its rear tires, the DS managed to escape thanks to its revolutionary suspension which kept the car rolling. This dramatic episode definitively forged the legend of the "goddess" and spectacularly demonstrated the reliability of its technical innovations .
At the same time, the DS conquered the world of entertainment and became a movie star in its own right. From "Fantômas" to "The Matrix Reloaded," including the films of the New Wave, it embodied French modernity and French elegance. This cultural dimension partly explains the persistent enthusiasm of collectors for DS model cars, particularly appreciated in our collections of French cars .
The two-tone blue and white of this miniature evokes the official liveries often adopted for representative vehicles, recalling this protocol dimension which contributed to the prestige of the DS in the French collective unconscious.
This 1/18th scale Citroën DS Solido occupies a central place in the world of French car model cars. The 1/18th scale allows for a particularly detailed reproduction, highlighting the stylistic subtleties that make the goddess so charming. It fits perfectly into the most prestigious 1/18th scale collections .
This reproduction naturally finds its place alongside other French icons such as the Renault 4CV or the Peugeot 404, available in our 1950s and 1960s collections. It is also an ideal complement to other Citroën models, from the Traction Avant to the various DS variants .
Whether you are passionate about French cars, a collector of exceptional sedans or a fan of revolutionary design, this special DS is a masterpiece that will appeal to both novices and the most knowledgeable connoisseurs, testifying to the golden age of the French automobile industry.
